Overview

Tucked away at 45-47 Mahoneys Road in Forest Hill, Tasty House offers a genuine taste of Cantonese cuisine that feels like a culinary journey to Guangzhou. This modern Chinese restaurant balances tradition with a fresh dining atmosphere, making it a standout spot both for casual families and special occasions. The spacious interior is thoughtfully designed to accommodate large groups and families, providing a comfortable and inviting environment that complements the food’s authenticity.

The menu is an enticing mix of classic Cantonese dishes and regional specialties, with a clear emphasis on expertly crafted roast meats. The roast duck, with its crisp skin and tender, juicy flesh, immediately catches the eye—and palate. Equally impressive is the roast pork, which achieves a perfect harmony between crunchy crackling, succulent meat, and just the right layer of fat. For those seeking something less conventional, the salted free-range chicken is a quietly addictive highlight, featuring delicate seasoning that transports diners straight to southern China.

Beyond the roast meats, Tasty House shines with variety. The crab dishes, particularly the Crab with Ginger & Spring Onion and options served with XO or black bean sauce, offer generous portions that suit sharing and anchored by fresh seafood. Fried kway teow and deep-fried flounder showcase skillful wok techniques and attention to texture. Vegetable dishes like stir-fried Chinese broccoli with sliced fish cake and the intriguing braised roast pork with tofu provide balanced flavors that round out the meal thoughtfully.

The attentive service enhances the overall experience, with staff who are responsive and professional, ensuring dishes arrive promptly and the dining flow feels seamless. The availability of private rooms adds an element of intimacy for celebrations or business meals, elevating the restaurant from a neighborhood favorite to a destination for memorable gatherings.

Guests often remark on the authenticity of the flavors—bold, nostalgic, and comforting—without overwhelming complexity. Soups like the chicken and sweet corn or Thai-style seafood tom yum bring warmth without heaviness, serving as excellent starters or companions to the main dishes.

While some feedback notes slight inconsistencies, such as variations in seasoning levels or seafood freshness, the overall impression is that Tasty House delivers consistent, high-quality Cantonese fare that respects tradition while embracing a contemporary dining setting. It’s a place where food is cooked with care, portions are generous, and the atmosphere welcomes a diverse audience—from families with children to groups celebrating special moments.

In sum, Tasty House (Forest Hill) is a compelling choice for those craving authentic Chinese roast meats and Cantonese comfort food in a modern, spacious setting with attentive service. Whether you’re indulging in a crispy roast duck, savoring stir-fried delicacies, or gathering with loved ones, this restaurant promises a satisfying and unpretentious dining experience rooted in culinary heritage.

A Taste of Guangzhou in Forest Hill, Tasty House lives up to its name. This spot delivers seriously good comfort food with bold, nostalgic flavors that speak to tradition done right. Roast duck lovers will appreciate the crisp, golden skin and rich, succulent meat. The roast pork hits that magical trifecta: crunchy skin, tender meat, and just the right amount of fat. But the surprise star is salted free range chicken. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and quietly addictive, something that brings me back to Guangzhou. The ox tongue stir-fry—tender slices with a deep, savory flavor that lingers in the best way. Even the vegetable soup, often a supporting act, held its own with a light but satisfying broth that felt like a warm hug. Tasty House isn’t flashy—it’s the kind of place that wins you over dish by dish. If you’re into honest, flavor-packed Cantonese fare, this place is worth the visit.

Very modern Chinese restaurant. I really like the tea that was already at the table and the little ornamental sauce holders. We ate corn egg soup, chasiu and pork. Overall great experience and the staff was extremely attentive, they even had mics to talk to one another. All the food came out very fast and the portions were good for the price.

The food was absolutely divine—each dish was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and perfectly cooked. From the traditional favorites to the special festive offerings, everything exceeded our expectations. The service was equally impressive. The staff was attentive and friendly. We were even given a comfortable private room, which added a lovely touch of privacy and intimacy to the evening. Overall, this restaurant delivered an exceptional dining experience. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

Update: Recently went to try their mud crabs which was not bad but i would have liked the flavour to have more eggs and less red colour. It's a bit too thick. The crab wasn't the freshest but the quantity was huge. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved the bun to dip with the sauce especially for the kids. ********** Affordable price for good, big portion of chinese dishes. Spacious restaurant with modern decor. Great place to come in big group. Children friendly too. I like the spinach vegetablr dish we ordered that served with century eggs which was so tasty and big portion. The fried prawns were huge and fresh too. Like restaurant serving fresh ingredients and cooking w care not overcooking.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I had the dry noodles with choice of two meats - I picked the BBQ pork and roast duck. I enjoyed the dish. A friend had the soup version with Laksa. She liked her dish too. The place got busier and more crowded as the afternoon wore on and by the time we left, there was a queue at the door. This restaurant is well lit and can accommodate quite a lot of people.

Alright you need to hit up this family run local Chinese cuisine place. I've been going here for years with my friends and family and it never disappointed. I chase my home flavours and this place has it all down pat. Get the roast pork and the stir fry goodies but definitely try their speciality seafood dishes. They renovated now too so it's much more roomy and lively.
